The ILM Level 5 Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring qualification is designed to enhance your knowledge of coaching and improve your management performance, conflict resolution, communication and interpersonal skills. This Diploma is awarded by the City & Guilds of London Institute and the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) — the UK’s leading provider of leadership, coaching and management qualifications and training. The Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) deems this Diploma to be at Level 5 in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but participants will typically be practising junior or middle managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.
Assessment Mode
To achieve the ILM Diploma in Coaching & Mentoring, candidates need to successfully complete two work-based assignments and to plan, deliver and review at least 18 hours of coaching and mentoring, respectively.

This diploma is designed to help you develop your ability as a confident, well-practiced coach and mentor in the workplace.
Module 1
Understanding the skills, principles and practice of effective management coaching and mentoring
This module aims to enable you to understand the role and contribution of coaching and mentoring, and build a business case. After completing this module, you will be able to: understand the purpose of coaching and mentoring within an organisational context; understand the skills, behaviours, attitudes, beliefs and values of an effective coach or mentor; understand the role of contracting and the process to effectively coach or mentor; and understand the principles of effective coaching or mentoring in practice and how to evaluate benefits.
Module 2
Undertaking effective coaching or mentoring within an organisational context
This module aims to give you the ability to critically review your own personal qualities, skills and competence. After completing this module, you will be able to: plan and prepare for management coaching or mentoring programmes based on identified developmental needs and goals; undertake and record at least twelve hours of formal coaching or mentoring activity with one or more clients; and reflect and review own management coaching or mentoring practice.
Module 3
Reviewing own ability as a management coach or mentor
In this module, 18 hours of coaching and mentoring are required to obtain the Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring and 54 hours of coaching and mentoring are required to obtain the Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring. After completing this module, you will be able to: assess your own skills, behaviours and knowledge as a coach and mentor; critically review and reflect on the effectiveness of your own practice as a coach or mentor; and demonstrate how you have developed and how you plan to develop in the future as a coach or mentor.
